The article "Gärten der Erinnerung: Virtuelle Realität und die Archive des Traumas" (gardens of memory: virtual reality and the archives of trauma), on which BayWISS doctoral candidate David Castro Lotero has collaborated, will be published in December 2025. The article will be published by CAPAZ (German Colombian Peace Institute) and will be part of the documentation of the summer academy "Demokratische Krise und kritische Perspektiven im digitalen Zeitalter in Lateinamerika" (democratic crisis and critical perspectives in the digital era in Latin America). It analyses how virtual reality (VR) can turn into a medium to preserve and communicate traumatic memories by means of immersive experiences. Under the metaphor "Gärten der Erinnerung" the text proposes to understand virtual space not only as digital archives but as sensitive places in which memories of pain and violence can meet and be newly interpreted.
