Profile

The University of Bamberg attaches great importance to good supervision and personal contact between teachers and students. Short distances between the individual university buildings enable this. The premises for teaching and research can be found at three locations: The buildings of both faculties of Humanities and Cultural Studies as well a Human Sciences are mostly located in historical buildings in the over 1000-year-old town of Bamberg. The Social and Economic Sciences Faculty is in Bamberg East and the Faculty of Information Systems and Applied Computer Science has been located on ERBA island since 2011. All locations are well connected and can be reached within 15 minutes. They provide the students with a canteen and cafeteria. The specialist departmental libraries are located in the immediate vicinity of the respective faculties.

The traditional university belongs to the medium-sized universities in Bavaria and provides a wide spectrum of around 100 Bachelor’s, Master’s, and teaching degree courses in all disciplines across the four faculties.

The university has a strong international focus. Currently, some 1500 foreign students from over 100 different countries study at the Upper Franconian university. They receive intensive support from the International Office. This internationality is also reflected in the degree courses on offer, which boast some double degree and joint degree programmes. Students from various subjects spent up to one year abroad as part of their studies. They benefit from exchange programmes with some 350 universities in more than 60 countries.

The University of Bamberg is very present in the cultural field thanks to literature events, readings, exhibitions and concert series in the city and region, and maintains close contact with companies and institutions throughout the region.
