Throwback: Annual Network Meeting VK Life Sciences in Kulmbach

Network meeting of the Verbundkolleg Life Sciences and Green Technologies of the Bavarian Academic Forum (BayWiss) on University of Bayreuth, Campus Kulmbach

On Friday, November 15th, 2024, doctoral candidates of the BayWISS Joint Academic Partnership Life Sciences and Green Technologies met at Campus Kulmbach with their supervisors and other interested scientists and students to discuss the reciprocal interactions between the food system and climate change.

The day was filled with presentations of our young academics on their research projects related to food production and supply chain management under climate change constraints.

After a subsequent networking event, during which all participants could get to know each other and exchange knowledge, a plenary discussion offered insights into current activities in research, product development, and politics.

Moderated by Prof. Dr. Ulrike Machold (Professor of Quality and Safety of Food of Animal Origin, Food Law at the Weihenstephan/Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences), six experts discussed current topics and approaches from their respective fields that are emerging now to secure food supplies for future generations. We thank Prof. Machold as well as all speakers and panel members, including professors from Campus Kulmbach, professors and students from the Weihenstephan/Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences, as well as Dr. Thomas Kunte (head of Research and Development at IREKS GmbH) and Rainer Prischenk (head of the area Nutrition and Agriculture of the District Government of Upper Franconia), for their efforts during the meeting and beyond, researching and developing strategies for food security in the face of climate change.
