Profile
The University of Music Würzburg (HfM) promotes musical excellence from PreCollege (support for highly talented children and teenagers) to Bachelor’s, Master’s and post-graduate master class programmes. The teacher training programmes train tomorrow’s music teachers for all types of schools. It’s possible to obtain a doctorate in the subjects musicology, music pedagogy and music theory.
About 650 students are taught by roughly 260 teachers from around the world, including numerous internationally well-known musicians. The university’s relatively small size creates an intimate learning environment and enables intensive interaction with the teachers. Teaching, research and musical education are located in three modern buildings in the centre of Würzburg.
With more than 250 events each year, the university contributes considerably to the region’s cultural scene, offering a large range of musical genres brought to life at the university – from the Baroque period to contemporary compositions, from classical music to jazz and pop music and from operas to musicals.
During their studies, students profit from numerous practically oriented offers and cooperations held with professional partners. Guest lecturers for master classes greatly enrich students’ education, especially in the case of instrumental soloists and singers. Also, external experts for chamber music regularly visit the university. The HfM maintains partnerships with 70 universities in 27 countries, in and outside of Europe.
